Success of video business compel Yahoo! Inc to launch new video series

U.S internet giant Yahoo! Inc. (NASDAQ:YHOO) is on track to release 18 new series to expand into digital world, muscling up its efforts to persuade advertisers and audience with high quality content. Of these, 14 video series will headline into yahoo’s digital magazines featuring beauty, show business and finance.

The company’s current live and original content offerings and induction of new series will add up to make 55 video series, according to company in a New York presentation event. The company’s new series include original programming, live broadcasts and videos for its magazines that are related to subjects like cars and food.

Marissa Mayer, chief executive officer of company since 2012, is focusing on video services for stabilization of the firm’s revenue growth as the company struggled in the industry in the presence of competitors like Google Inc (NASDAQ:GOOGL) and Facebook Inc (NASDAQ:FB). Even diverse service providers like YouTube, Netflix, Amazon, Hulu and Pluto.tv are also formidable threats to Yahoo. Yahoo’s revenue rose 55 percent in the enterprise video segment for the first quarter compared with boost of 8 percent in overall revenue.

“You’ve been talking, and we’ve been listening,” Lisa Utzschneider, senior vice president, said during the gathering for advertising executives. “You want premium content and the ability to connect with a loyal and engaged audience.”

The new programming includes “Ultimate DJ,” an electronic music competition-style live series with Simon Cowell as executive producer, and “The Pursuit,” a scripted original long-form series from film producer Scott Stuber and Beth McCarthy Miller, a former director of “Saturday Night Live.”

“I Am Naomi,” starring model Naomi Campbell, and “Riding Shotgun with Michelle Rodriguez,” which will feature actress Michelle Rodriguez driving cars, are among the new offerings.

New live shows will be initiated based on Yahoo’s finance and news properties, announced by Kathy Savitt, Yahoo’s chief marketing officer during conversation in New York presentation event. The global anchor of Yahoo, Katie Couric, launched a new daily live show.

Yahoo has also renewed its contract with Live Nation to broadcast national concerts and portions of festivals. Yahoo prioritizing the premium content in its video series, including the show “Community,” previously broadcasted on NBC and stars Joel McHale, and “Sin City Saints,” an original program about a Las Vegas basketball franchise.
