Apple Inc. is working on a feature that would allow unlocking your iPhone using your face instead of fingerprints. For its new iPhone, which is expected to go on sale later this year, Apple reportedly tested an improved security system that allows users to log into the system to certify payments and launch applications protected by scanning their face. The feature is powered by the new 3-D sensor, Bloomberg said citing anonymous person. The company tested function to scan the eye to increase security.

The speed and accuracy of the sensor are key to the function. It can scan the face of the user and unlocks the iPhone within a few hundred milliseconds. The feature is designed to work even if the device is lying flat. The feature is still in a period of testing and may not appear in the new device. However, the goal is it to replace the Touch ID fingerprint scanner. A spokesman for Apple declined to comment on the topic.

In testing unlock function with facial recognition collect more data from scanning fingerprints, making it more secure by Touch ID system. Apple released Touch ID in 2013 with the iPhone 5s to unlock the phone and add support for certification of payments and the entry into application a year later.

Apple is not the first as there have been others using various forms of biometric identification. In its latest Samsung phones allows users to unlock the phone and make payments by scanning the retina. This feature of the Samsung Galaxy S8 garnered bad reviews, however, after a number of users were able to bring the sensor up, finally succeeded with the help of the user’s eyes.

The sensor is Apple’s perception of three-dimensional depth, which means it is less likely the system to be duped by two-dimensional images. Analysts at JPMorgan Chase & Co. and other companies said earlier this year that the sensor 3-D will probably be included in the next iPhone.

The debut of the new iPhone in the fall will mark the biggest upgrade for years as the most important product of the company. Apple introduced the iPhone 7 and iPhone 7 Plus last fall with an emphasis on the camera and increase the speed of action, using the same design as the previous iPhone 6s.

iPhone generates almost two-thirds of Apple’s sales and has become a major hub for products like Apple Watch, Apple TV, as well as new HomePod.
