General Motors Company (NYSE:GM) is gearing up for the 6th edition of its revolutionary brand Chevrolt Camaro in an attempt to compete with Ford Motor Company’s (NYSE:F) Mustang. On the performance end, Camaro got healthier performance capability than Mustang. The new pony car will come with a 455-horsepower V-8 engine compared with Mustang’s 435 horsepower engine.

GM revealed the sixth version of Camaro at Belle Isle on the Detroit River on Saturday. The new SS version is averaging less than $2.70 a gallon with regular unleaded gasoline.

The automaker comes up with latest Camaro in less than a year after Ford’s Mustang, in an attempt to beat it again as GM did from 2010 to 2014. Chevrolt, a subsidiary of GM, is confident to woo sports cars lovers with big, powerful engines and equipped with some better technology to enhance Camaro’s handling capabilities.

“Every inch of it has been has been improved,” Chief Executive Officer Mary Barra said in an interview with Bloomberg Television. As far as whether the car will outsell the Mustang, “I think we will, and that is our goal,” she said.

According to GM, 63 percent of the buyers that ordered Camaro aren’t the GM’s regular customers.

In order to outsell Ford other two models, Chevy has also introduced a 335-horsepower V-6 engine and a 275-horsepower, turbo four-cylinder motor. While Ford’s other two models comes up with 310 or 300 horsepower engines.

One of the success engineers of the GM has got is to make it less weight. GM’s engineers were able to carved 200 pounds (90 kilograms) out of the car, which will ease the car to move faster and steer better. The other main benefit light weight provides is the less consumption of fuel. Improved aerodynamics gives the car more stability.

“We’re out to win,” said Dave Leone, chief engineer at Cadillac, who also helped develop the Camaro. “The customer benefits from the rivalry that goes on.”

According to Autodata, in the first four months of 2015, Mustang sales are up 60 percent. But sales of the current version of Camaro are dropped 15 percent to date in the current year.

The new Camaro will be in dealership showrooms during the last quarter of this year.
