Google Inc (NASDAQ:GOOGL) is rolling out a new feature that optimizes the battery life of devices which uses internet through devices like laptops, smartphones etc. The new tool will be added to Google’s Chrome search engine directory. Basically the new feature limits the Adobe Flash player content on the web page, as nowadays advertisers target ads to users in the form of videos which run automatically on the screen.

The new extension is a part of the new beta edition of Google’s Chrome browser that automatically locates Flash videos running on a Web page and pauses anything that’s unnecessary during browsing. If user wants to play the flash content they will be able to do so.

“When you’re on a Web page that runs Flash, we’ll intelligently pause content (like Flash animations) that aren’t central to the Web page, while keeping central content (like a video) playing without interruption,” Tommy Li, a Google software engineer, wrote in a blog post on Thursday.

Adobe Flash has been an important tool to stream videos on internet as the content that is uploaded on the internet mostly encoded in Adobe Flash language. But in recent years Adobe has been under pressure by some technology firms due to security issues and power rupture stimulator.

While at the helm at Apple, co-founder Steve Jobs said that Flash would be removed from the company’s iOS mobile operating system and further urging other companies to support his decision. This move urged website developers to introduce alternative standards for supporting video content and they come up with standards like HTML5, and diminished the impact Flash had on the Web.

Google’s move on Thursday is a further condemnation of Adobe’s Flash platform. Google’s Li argues that Flash “can put a squeeze on your laptop’s battery.”

“This update significantly reduces power consumption, allowing you to surf the Web longer before having to hunt for a power outlet,” Li wrote, without saying how much of an improvement in battery life users can expect.

That move hurt Adobe as currently chrome browser is holding 26 percent share in global browser market, based on the NetMarketShare data. Currently the new amendment is only available to Chrome beta. Google will soon give this feature to full versions in the future.
