When it comes to Japan, some of the first things that come to mind are completely crazy technology innovations and inventions. The Olympics and Paralympics of 2020 in Tokyo, Japan, promise to revolutionize the world of technology and leave a great legacy.
A new airport mobility solution created by a Japanese company seems to unite exactly those two items. After all, it is an autonomous wheelchair that should facilitate – and much – the lives of disabled people in the country’s air terminals.
Developed by Panasonic in partnership with Whill Inc., Wheel Next is one of the products that promises to make its debut at the event, known as the “autonomous wheelchair.” The mobility equipment for people with physical disabilities works in a way integrated with a mobile application that allows the user to move more efficiently and safely to places like airports, as the example here shows.
That is, its operation is very similar to what we do currently in programs like Uber, for example, in which we add a destination and the platform itself mounts the path indicating to the driver all the way.
In addition, the wheelchair has other characteristics quite curious as if to couple to others of the same model to form a kind of train capable of taking several customers to the same destination simultaneously, indicate the stores that the user wants to visit, inform the gate of Boarding and, of course, take the same to the place and, finally, allow the passenger to take care of the vehicle, including by triggering a braking system in some emergency situation.
Another interesting point is that if the user wants to take control of the electric vehicle, an advanced braking mechanism is careful to break the device if it detects an obstacle or a person on the way. Finally, the technological wheelchair can couple to other of the same type to form a kind of train capable of taking several customers to the same destination simultaneously.
Reminding that for the 2020 Olympics are also planned other important technological innovations such as the deployment of the 5G by Samsung and also the first flying car.
